Part-time Paraprofessional Tutor Pool
Title: Paraprofessional Tutors, various subjects
Description of Hours: up to 10 hours/week
Highland Community College periodically searches for part-time paraprofessionals to tutor in various subjects. Though a position may not be open at this time, you are invited to complete our online application form and upload your resume, a cover letter stating your tutoring interest, and copies of your transcripts.
Essential Job Functions:
• Provide student support through scheduled appointments and drop-in sessions.
• Communicate with faculty to ensure continuity for students related to specific course expectations and discussions during tutoring sessions.
• Collaborate with faculty/staff to create a schedule that is most beneficial to student need.
• Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of students.
• Ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner verbally and in writing to students and decipher comprehension during tutoring sessions.
Skills:
• Able to utilize excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen with empathy and respect, communicate clearly, and convey courtesy, patience, sincerity and a desire to help.
• Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and faculty, characterized by cooperation, flexibility, reliability, and personal responsibility.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Able to interact with diverse personalities and populations with respect and sensitivity.
Educational Requirements: Applicants should have a minimum of Associate’s Degree in subject matter for which they are tutoring.
Compensation: The salary shall be in accordance with the approved part-time salary schedule.
